National Background Data Selects
Toshiba Solutions for Its New Affiliate Application
OCALA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 7, 2004--National
Background Data, LLC (NBD) (http://nationalbackgrounddata.com),
a leading provider of criminal information databases for the background
screening services industry, announced today that they have deployed
Toshiba Magnia(R) web and database servers configured especially
for the rollout of their new affiliate application.
"Affordable, high-performance servers are the IT mainstay of
our production infrastructure. NBD has always looked to maximize
performance and value from our hardware and software investments,"
said Robert Holloran, Chairman and CEO of NBD. "For example,
Randy Lastinger, our Director of Network Operations, developed the
detailed specifications for our current servers that enabled Intel
CPUs with hyper-threading to function as though they have twice
the number of resources." Building on NBD's existing server
design, which is now the norm for hyper-threaded systems, Lastinger
tailored Toshiba's new server line with the expanded storage and
improved performance needs of the new NBD application and ever expanding
data warehouse.
The new system triples the amount of storage of
NBD's existing servers, which will support continued expansion of
NBD's criminal history databases. The new system also simplifies
the process for updating NBD's criminal history database, permitting
more frequent updates of the data. NBD's professional background
screening company affiliates will also appreciate the substantial
performance enhancement provided by the new Toshiba production servers
and the new affiliate application when they conduct criminal history
background checks that are national in scope. "Even with the
customization services and increased system capability that Toshiba
provided, the cost of the new system was less than the previous
system," Holloran added.
"Toshiba is pleased to be working with National
Background Data in the development and implementation of the cutting-edge
server technology they needed to deliver industry-leading background
screening products," said Bill Greenlund, director of server
product marketing, Toshiba Digital Solutions Division. "With
the assistance of NBD and through our mutual strategic relationship
with Astaro Corporation, we are also developing network security
appliances specifically designed for background screening professionals
like NBD's affiliates."
About National Background Data, LLC
NBD's mission is to help the professional background
screening industry determine whether applicants have undisclosed
criminal records and convictions, by providing efficient, fast and
economical access to the most comprehensive and accurate private
collection available of statewide and county criminal records. NBD's
web-based application permits cost-effective and efficient multi-jurisdiction
screenings, allowing more thorough background checks. NBD markets
its database products exclusively through a nationwide network of
more than 200 professional background screening company affiliates
and other strategic partners.
